  • In the age of evidence-based medicine, it is important that a text be referenced to the science that supports the knowledge and standards of practice within the field. Throughout the text, when a statement of fact is made, you’ll find the science to support the statement in the notes at the end of each chapter.

  • The text is oriented to the street. Information is provided because it is relevant to the work of the paramedic and not for its own sake. Street secrets are provided throughout the text to guide the student through applying what he’s learned.

  • DOT objectives are listed at points in the text where they are covered.

  • Each chapter begins with Need to Know Objectives. These are things every Paramedic should know that will described in the chapter .

  • The experience of this author team bring you "Nice to Know." These are pieces of information that enhance the material being studied and the patient interactions.

  • "Connection Boxes" throughout the text direct the reader to related information in other chapters.

  • "Do/Ask" and, where appropriate, "Sick/Not Yet Sick" boxes. These boxes identify the assessment actions and interview questions that students will be able to apply pertaining to the chapter material.

  • Thousands of images showing skills, traumatic conditions and illnesses in detail. The photos, drawings, and other visual aids throughout the text were carefully selected to enhance the material in the chapter.

  • Text is fully referenced. The note citations in the link students to the “Notes” section at the end of each chapter where they will find the research on which the comments were based.

  • More Pathophysiology than you’ll find in any pre-hospital text.
