Overview

Now in its 6th edition, Silberschatz, Korth, and Sudarshan’s Database System Concepts is one of the cornerstone texts of database education. It presents the fundamental concepts of database management in an intuitive manner geared toward allowing students to begin working with databases as quickly as possible. The text emphasizes practical issues, applications, and implementation, coupled with coverage of key theoretical concepts in a clear and well motivated manner. To keep the focus manageable, concepts and algorithms are presented in a general setting that is not tied to one particular database system, but annotated where required with variations specific to particular database systems. Familiarity with basic data structures, computer organization, and a high-level programming language are the only prerequisites.
