Aerobic Physical Activities  Aerobic means "in the presence of oxygen." Aerobic activities are activities or exercise for which the body is able to supply adequate oxygen to sustain performance for long periods of time.
Anaerobic Physical Activities  Anaerobic means "in the absence of oxygen." Anaerobic activities are performed at an intensity so great that the body's demand for oxygen exceeds its ability to supply it.
Built Environment  A term used to describe aspects of our created physical environment (e.g., buildings, roads).
Cardiovascular Fitness Benefits  Improvements in cardiovascular function that contributes to cardiovascular fitness.
Health Benefits  Reductions in hypokinetic disease risk and risk for early death.
Last Bout Effect  Some of the benefits of physical activity are short-term.
MET  One MET equals the amount of energy a person expends at rest. METs are multiples of resting activity (2 METs equals twice the resting energy expenditure).
Performance Benefit  An improved ability to score well on physical fitness tests or to perform well in athletic or work activities requiring high-level performance.
Wellness Benefits  Increases in quality of life and well-being.
