Based on what you have read in this chapter and what you've encountered in your life, what are some other physical ailments that may result from substance abuse? Are health consequences one of the criteria you use to make decisions regarding drugs and alcohol? In the Tobacco module click on Wellness Activities and complete the assessment "Tobacco: Are You at Risk? (Part 1)". This assessment measures your risk level based on the exposure to tobacco smoke on either an active or passive basis. When you get your results, the summary discusses the ultimate effects of smoking, including death and a decrease in quality of life. If you smoke regularly, does the risk of emphysema, cancer or other smoking-related illnesses concern you? If you do not smoke, are there some health factors such as emphysema that prevent you from doing so? |
