    • Videos on DVD - Six of the cases (Costco, The Battle in Radio Broadcasting, Competition in the Bottled Water Industry in 2006, Blue Nile, Panera Bread, and Competition in Video Game Consoles) have accompanying videoclips that can be shown in conjunction with the case discussions. Suggestions for using each video are contained in the teaching note for that case.

    • Strategy Simulations: The Business Strategy Game & GLO-BUS Both of these simulations allow teams of students to manage companies in a head-to-head contest for global market leadership. These simulations give students the immediate opportunity to experiment with various strategy options and to gain proficiency in applying the core concepts and analytical tools that they have been reading about in the chapters. Students are motivated as they compete against teams in their own class and across the globe as they are applying their learning and are making decisions relating to product quality, production, work force compensation and training, pricing and marketing, and financing of company operations. The challenge is to craft and execute a strategy that is powerful enough to deliver good financial performance despite the competitive efforts.

With the Business Strategy Game, teams of students run an athletic footwear company in head-to-head competition against companies run by other class members. Company co-managers must make decisions relating to plant operations, distribution and warehouse operations, work force compensation, online sales at the company’s web site, sales and marketing, and finance. The challenge is to craft and execute a competitive strategy that results in a respected brand image, keeps your company in contention for global market leadership, and produces good financial performance as measured by earnings per share, return on investment, stock price appreciation, and credit rating. With GLO-BUS, teams of students run a digital camera company in head-to-head competition against companies run by other class members. Company operations parallel those of actual digital camera companies. Just as in the real-world, companies compete with a product line that consists of both entry-level and upscale, “multi-featured” digital cameras that are sold worldwide. • Standard Cartridge: The Standard Cartridge includes all of material that is contained in the OLC but in a format ready for Blackboard, WebCT, etc. (included in price of textbook).

      • Case-TUTOR Software - One of the most important and useful student aids available as premium content at the website is a set of downloadable files called Case-TUTOR that consists of (1) files containing assignment questions for all 14 cases in the text and (2) files containing analytically-structured exercises for 7 of the cases—these 7 “case preparation exercises” coach students in doing the strategic thinking needed to arrive at solid answers to the assignment questions for that case. Conscientious completion of the case preparation exercises helps students gain quicker command of the concepts and analytical techniques and points them toward doing good strategic analysis. The 7 cases with an accompanying case preparation exercise are indicated by the Case-TUTOR logo in the case listing section of the Table of Contents (the Case-TUTOR logo also appears on the first page of cases for which there is an exercise).

All the directions that students need to use the Case-TUTOR files appear on the opening screens, and the menus are self-evident and intuitive. The Case-TUTOR courseware can be used only on Windows-based PCs loaded with Microsoft Excel (either the Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003, or Office 2007 versions).
