The new PsychInteractive Online may be incorporated in an online course, used as a lab component, or simply for student review. It includes more than 70 interactive exercises on core topics, all with accompanying practice quizzes, personal insight surveys, and study pages. PsychInteractive is fully compatible with WebCT and Blackboard.

The modular structure of the textbook has been adapted to allow an optional 17-chapter organization, providing a logical flow to the content for people who prefer a chapter organization, so instructors can tailor the book to the specific needs of their course.

Content throughout the book has been revised and updated to reflect current research and respond to comments from reviewers. In particular, chapter 7 on Memory has been organized to offer clearer focus on core concepts. In addition, increased biological information is integrated throughout the book where appropriate.

A new feature has been added, visually summarizing six coreconcepts that students traditionally find difficult to absorb. These include Mastering Research Design and Methodology; Mastering the Difference between Sensation and Perception; Mastering The Action Potential; Mastering Operant Conditioning; and Mastering Persuasion.

Teaching students about the science of psychology and helping them make connections between the discipline and everyday life has been a goal of this text from the beginning, in the book as well as in all supporting materials.

Applying Psychology in the 21st Century boxes in each chapter discuss applications of psychological theory and current problems, as well as applications we are likely to see in the future.

In addition to a substantial amount of material relevant to diversity integrated throughout the text, a special section in each unit called Exploring Diversity explores a racial, ethnic, gender, or cultural diversity topic.

Specific sections in each chapter called Becoming anInformed Consumer of Psychology are designed to give readers the abilityto evaluate critically what the field of psychology offers.

Framework for Learning and Assessment: Every component of Understanding Psychology is tied to the mastery of core psychological concepts, whether in the text, in PrepCenter, or in PsychInteractive Online. These are further reinforced in both Test Banks and by materials in the Instructor’s Manual.

The text pedagogy includes review summaries called Recall/Evaluate/Rethink, plus critical thinking questions that prompt students to apply psychological concepts to the world around them.
