What’s New:

  • The first new chapter since the inception of the book was added to the eighth edition. Chapter 15 (“Buss: Evolutionary Theory of Personality”) examines the work of David Buss and is one of two chapters in the new Part V, which discusses evolutionary and biological theories of personality. Part V also includes a completely revised Chapter 14 (“Eysenck’s Biologically-Based Factor Theory”) on Hans Eysenck’s work with biologically-based factor theories.
  • The Related Research section of Chapter 9 (“Maslow: Holistic-Dynamic Theory”) includes a new discussion of new research being done in Europe on Maslow’s Deficit and Being needs. This research calls into question the supreme value placed on self-esteem in Western culture.

  • A new co-author, Tomi-Ann Roberts, has been added. Dr. Roberts is the Winkler Herman Professor of Psychology at Colorado College.
