The corporate home for this organization is found in Bentonville, AR. In 1950, Sam Walton started what was to become the Wal-Mart we know today. His simple business philosophy of making the customer number one is still firmly ingrained within this thriving organization.

Explore the above site of Wal-Mart. What perceptions can you draw from this site about the culture of Wal-Mart? Would you describe this culture as a strong or weak? Explain. Using the chapter content on "How you read a culture," analyze the Wal-Mart culture. Prepare a two-page report of your findings for a class discussion.

The 3M corporation has roots that span over a hundred years. The company logo 3M is vastly known and so are its products such as the Scotch brand. This organization states "3M is committed to continued improvement in its environmental, safety, and health performance."

Examine this site. How would you envision this organization utilizes and communicates its cultural values? What types of skills do you believe managers must possess in order to effectively assist such an organization to achieve its goal? Identify the company’s mission statement. What role do you believe the company’s past play in its present cultural values? How might 3M prepare for the future yet keeps its culture going? Explain.
