Reviewer Comments

"Combining up-to-date economics, and just the right amount of institutional detail, this textbook is quite simply the best available on the subject."
Reviewer, London School of Economics, UK

"On the basis of what I have seen I would adopt the Baldwin and Wyplosz text … Each of the chapters I have read is well written. The coverage in Baldwin and Wyplosz is very good … From the outline this treatment of optimum currency areas (a topic students like) is very good. This is the biggest plus for me. Everything is in the book that I could possible hope or want to cover … I cannot really find fault with any of the chapters of the book that I currently include on my lecture course. For me the book looks vastly superior to anything currently available. The data in all of the chapters is superb and the coverage of theory is excellent."
Reviewer, National University of Ireland - Maynouth, Ireland

"The writing style is excellent. The level is appropriate for students without knowledge of economic models and without a deeper understanding of European economic issues."
Reviewer, Copenhagen University, Denmark

"The authors are clear authorities on the issues and the methodology surrounding European economic policy making. The book has excellent current coverage of EMU, and has more of a political economy focus than the competitors."
Reviewer, Oberlin University, USA

"Overall, I believe that this textbook promises to close a gap in the market and I would be keen to adopt it as the core text for my teaching of European Union economics for three main reasons. First, the book explores issues of economic integration and monetary integration in one text. Second, the level of rigour and analysis is appropriate for undergraduate economics students. Third, the writing style is very effective in conveying sometimes complex concepts and ideas in a clear and concise way. In general, I am looking forward to the proposed book appearing in print."
Reviewer, Brunel University, UK

"I would adopt because it’s succinct, up-to-date and rigorous without being off-putting."
Reviewer, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

"The book presents the economics behind European Integration in a manner that is both accessible and comprehensive… The book avoids presenting the policies of the EU in excruciating detail, concentrating instead on the essential economics behind the functioning of the EU. I believe that this is what makes the book stand out from the rest."
Reviewer, University of Newcastle, UK

"I would be strongly predisposed towards adopting this text simply because of the attempt to provide a consistent theoretical approach to the underlying economics of European integration. None of the currently available texts is totally adequate in covering the material that I wish to use."
Reviewer, University of Kent at Canterbury, UK

"The core of the proposal is really excellent and it will fill a gap for third year undergraduates and I would argue graduate students coming to European policy issues for the first time… The authors are at the top of the profession and the height of their powers, and are good teachers, so trust them on the economics."
Reviewer, University of Sussex, UK
