TONY DAVIES MBA FCMA MCMI After studying for a degree in economics at Bath University, Tony trained as an accountant and qualified as a chartered management accountant (FCMA). He also has an MBA (masters degree in business administration), with distinction, from Cardiff University, and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI). His career progressed through financial control and finance director roles in companies across a range of industries including paper products, automotive components, packaging, television news gathering and syndication, and food products. These comprised companies based in France, the USA, Canada and the UK, and include Bowaters, Peugeot, Visnews/BBC (now Reuters Television), Valeo, RHM and Tomkins. Such career progression ensured hands-on financial and accounting experience at every level including responsibilities for strategic development and corporate finance. Tony’s wide industrial and commercial business experience at board level as a finance director of large and small companies, in a number of industries, adds an important practical dimension to his approach to accounting and finance teaching and training. Tony has lectured in finance and accounting at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, Lampeter, and Bangor Business School, and heads up Lucis Consulting, a provider of business and financial consultancy and training. Tony provides consultancy services, lectures and presents training seminars on finance and accounting for a large number of companies across a range of industries in the UK, Europe, the USA, Middle East, and the Far East. Tony has published a number of successful books on accounting and finance, including Strategic Corporate Finance, Business Accounting and Finance, Principles of Accounting and Finance , and Financial Accounting (all published by McGraw-Hill, UK), and Business Accounting and Finance (published by McGraw-Hill, New Zealand). His educational video called Getting To World Class was released in 2001 by Einstein Films (formerly the Network Television Education Network). Tony is involved with a number of voluntary activities, including helping to organise an annual charity walk, and preparing the accounts for his local school. Formerly the Wales representative on the Council of the Chartered Management Institute, he also served on their audit and membership committees. He is interested in most sports, in particular rugby, tennis and table tennis. He played these sports in his youth, competing successfully at a high level in table tennis. A keen swimmer, Tony begins most days with a half-mile workout at his local pool. Tony's love of music began through playing guitar in a band until school studies took over. He now prefers to listen to jazz and blues and was a regular visitor to blues clubs during frequent business trips to Chicago. For relaxation Tony reads, practices yoga, and tries unsuccessfully to emulate Omar Sharif at his local bridge club. TONY BOCZKO MA FCCA Tony Boczko is a lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the Hull University Business School. He has held a number of senior management positions in Local Government, the UK Health Service, and the Financial Services Industry, and has undertaken a wide range of independent consultancies for both national and international organisations. He has taught at a number of Universities in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Zambia, on a range of under graduate and post graduate programmes, and has presented academic papers on accounting and finance related issues at a number of national and international conferences. Tony’s main research interests are in developing an understanding of the roles of accounting information and accounting information systems in the management process, and he is currently involved in developing knowledge management/quality control procedures for a number of UK based debt management companies. Tony is a keen athlete with a passion for all competitive sports. JEAN CHEN PhD Dr Jean Jinghan Chen is a Reader in financial management at the University of Surrey. She obtained a PhD in Economics from Lancaster University. Her research interests cover a wide range of topics in the area of financial economics and financial management, in particular, corporate finance and corporate governance, where she has published widely in leading academic journals. Her contribution in research has been recognised by the international academic community. She serves on the editorial board for the academic journals Corporate Governance: An International Review, and Corporate Ownership and Control, and also a regular reviewer for 6 major academic journals in financial and economic studies. She has delivered international conference plenary/keynote speeches and seminars, participating in advisory and review bodies. Dr Chen has substantial teaching experience in Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has been involved widely in curriculum development at UG, PG and MBA levels and is currently the programme leader for MSc in International Financial Management at the University of Surrey. She has also involved often on provision of short courses and consultancy services to professionals and academics alike for the British Government (DFID and DTI), the EU, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and private companies. Prior to joining the University of Surrey in 1998, Dr Chen had both academic experience (held various academic positions in the UK and Chinese Universities) and industrial background (worked in the banking sector). |
