Use Cases

Use case diagrams are part of the UML standard. The notation is described in the UML Notation Guide at the OMG. See the links in Chapter 5 to the UML Specification.

There are some other sites about Writing Use Cases such as usecases.org (which links to Alastair Cockburn's site listed below) and The Usecase Zone with many useful links and articles.

A web search will now turn up many sites with examples of UML diagrams and (usually brief) instructions on how to draw them. However, many sites still have information about older versions of UML, back as far as UML 1.2 notation.

For articles and books on use cases, requirements, CRC Cards (See Chapter 7), Alastair Cockburn's site is a good resource.
