TONY DAVIES MBA FCMA MCMI

After studying economics at Bath University, Tony began his training as an accountant. Tony qualified as a chartered management accountant and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA). He also gained an MBA from University of Wales, Cardiff. Tony is a member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI). As a former elected member on the Council and a non-executive director of the Chartered Management Institute, Tony also sat on their Audit Committee and Membership Committee.

Tony has held international financial control and finance director roles in a range of both manufacturing and service industries including paper products, automotive components, packaging, television news gathering/syndication, and food products. These comprise companies based in France, the US, Canada and the UK, and include Bowaters, Peugeot, Visnews/British Broadcasting Corporation (now Reuters Television), Valeo, Ranks Hovis McDougall and Tomkins. Such career progression ensured hands-on accounting and financial experience at every level through to responsibility for strategic development and corporate finance.

Tony's wide industrial and commercial experience led to an interest and involvement in personal development, team building, education and development of the learning organisation. This provided the platform for the natural move from industry into higher education and business consultancy/training. His wide business experience adds a further dimension to his approach to accounting and finance education and training. He has lectured at a number of universities on accounting and finance including the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and University of Wales, Lampeter, and currently lectures at the Business School, University of Wales, Bangor. His main research interest is into levels of financial awareness, particularly in the private sector, and the impact on business performance.

Tony heads up Lucis Consulting, which provides business consultancy and training in the UK and overseas. Tony provides consultancy and training seminars for a range of companies in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, dealing with accounting, finance, budgeting and achievement of World Class performance. His educational video on World Class performance is based on the French automotive company Valeo, and was released by Einstein Films (formerly the Television Education Network) in 2001.

Tony is involved with a number of voluntary activities, including helping to organise an annual charity walk, and preparing the accounts for his local school. Tony is interested in most sports, and in particular rugby, tennis and table tennis. He played these sports in his youth, competing successfully at a high level in table tennis. A keen swimmer, Tony begins most days with a half-mile workout at his local pool. Tony's love of music began through playing guitar in a band until school studies took over. He now prefers to listen to jazz and blues and was a regular visitor to blues clubs during frequent business trips to Chicago. For relaxation Tony reads, practices yoga, and tries regularly (unsuccessfully) to emulate Omar Sharif at his local bridge club.
