Gender issues and sexual diversity are addressed in this chapter. The aim is to present some background on anthropology's treatment of these topics and to present examples for students. The section on factors affecting gender roles highlights the complexity of gender issues and how kinship, economic resources, and ideology are intertwined with gender issues—holism again. The section on sexuality across cultures gives a brief overview of data on sexual attraction and behaviors, including sexual orientation.
