Comparing Literature: The Sky Tree, How the Leopard Got his Claws, and Prayer to the Pacific

Each of these Comparing Literature selections derives from an oral culture in which storytelling is used to pass on ancient traditions. While modern Americans might not use storytelling to preserve traditions, families and groups of friends still share their own histories through oral accounts. For example, your grandparents might retell the story of their arrival in America or you might tell your friends a funny story from summer camp. Think of oral story that people in your family or group of friends enjoys retelling. Write out this story, trying to capture the language you would use if you were speaking.
