The Pit and the Pendulum

Poe builds suspense throughout the story by presenting potential threats to the narrator, giving clues as to what might happen, and not revealing everything all at once. Think of an event you’ve experienced or heard about that was frightening. Write a description of the event using elements of suspense to keep the reader interested. Then read your description to the class using your voice and gestures to enhance the suspense.
