Swing Low, Sweet Chariot

Spirituals, such as “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” can be experienced by reading them, singing them, or listening to them. Consider what is unique to each of these three ways of experiencing a song. Which way of experiencing spirituals do you prefer? Write a paragraph explaining your preference. Cite specific reasons and explain what the version you prefer emphasizes about the spiritual. Consider the elements of poetry that the songs contain, such as rhyme, rhythm, repetitition, figurative language, and imagery. Also consider the emotions of the songs and how those emotions are expressed in the version you prefer.
