Keep Your Hand on the Plow

Anti-slavery activist Frederick Douglass wrote of spirituals, “Every tone was a testimony against slavery and a prayer to God for deliverance from chains.” In one or two paragraphs, write your response to the following question: How does the spiritual “Keep Your Hand on the Plow” support what Douglass wrote? Remember to place the song in its historical context and also to keep in mind that slavery was a form of both physical and psychological bondage. Be sure to cite specific lines from the song as evidence to support your conclusions.
