The Jilting of Granny Weatherall

A eulogy is a speech or written commendation praising the character and achievements of someone who has died. In the past, a eulogy was formal. Today, it can be formal or informal, with a serious or slightly humorous tone. A eulogy should contain the following elements:

  • at least two or three characteristics of the person being eulogized
  • supporting anecdotes or evidence
  • achievements or honors of the deceased and the significance of those honors

Write a eulogy for Granny Weatherall based on details from the story. The eulogy can be formal, as would have been appropriate in the South in the early twentieth century, or it can be informal, as would be appropriate today.
