Breakfast

The camp in this story reflects the plight of migrant laborers during the Depression. Imagine that, over breakfast, one of the family members talks to the narrator about his or her life both in the camp and before arriving in the camp. From the viewpoint of that character, write a brief narrative explaining what brought the person to this place. You might consider answering questions such as the following: What made the person move from his or her original home? What does he or she expect from this new life? Make inferences from details in “Breakfast” to support your ideas. You may also refer to the unit introduction for background.
