1.

The Rockpile

Both John and Roy play important roles in this story, and it could be said that each one is a foil, or a contrasting character that highlights traits of another character, for the other. To understand the contrasts between the two characters, create two lists in which you record the ways in which each character is a foil for the other. Give the title Roy to the first list and John to the second. An example of your first entry for Roy would be “attracted to the rockpile.” And the parallel example for your first entry for John would be “afraid of the rockpile.” Complete your lists with details from the story about both characters.
