You need to understand the general qualities of postmodern theatre, both in terms of its formal features and creative approach.

You should be familiar with the many areas, including gender, sexuality, and ethnicity, in which theatre is opening, as well as the kinds of theatre such openings have engendered.

You need to appreciate the qualities and significance of today’s theatre of revival.

You need to know some of the major creators of theatre today and the qualities of the types of theatre they stage, including performance art, dance theatre, movement art, solo performance, and postmodern direction of more traditionally configured theatre.

You should know the kinds of places in which theatre is done today and the kinds of theatre typically done in each.
