Robert Cohen received his Doctorate in Fine Arts from Yale School or Drama is 1965; that fall, he became a founding faculty member (and Drama Department chair) of the University of California at Irvine, where he continues to serve as Professor of Drama. In 1999, he received the Association for Theater in Higher Education's Career Achievement Award for Education. Additionally, Cohen regularly stages classical plays at the Utah and Colorado Shakespeare festivals and directs acting workshops at theatres and conservatories around the world. He is the author of seven books on theater, numerous scholarly articles, and translations of plays (The Misanthrope, Clizia), as well as operas (Carmen, The Magic Flute): his 1998 play, The Prince, has been professionally produced and published in both America and Europe. He is also the Southern California drama critic for the London-based Plays International.
