  1. You should know in which ways playwriting can be seen as a literary undertaking and those which make it distinct from (other) forms of literature.
  2. You need to be familiar with the centrality of action to playwriting and its implications.
  3. You should understand what qualities combine to create a fine play and what each quality contributes.
  4. You need to know the steps that often form the process of creating a play.
  5. You should be familiar with some of the leading American playwrights and the qualities of their work.
