About the Authors

Steven R. Brydon, California State University, Chico
From 1973 to 1985 Steve Brydon was the forensics coach for California State University, Chico. In 1985, he began a three-year term as department Chair. From 1988-90 he served as a full professor with no administrative duties. From 1990-91, he was interim chair for the Journalism department. From 1991-1998, he was the Chair of the Communication Arts and Sciences department. Steve has co-authored three books, and has also published in the areas of argumentation and debate, and political communication.

Michael D. Scott, California State University, Chico
After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, Mike Scott served as a member of the communication and educational psychology department at the University of West Virginia. While at West Virginia, he co-authored two books; the first dealt with interpersonal communication, and the other--a first of its kind--discussed communication in the classroom. In 1977, he was named Outstanding Teacher at the University of West Virginia.

For the past 18 years, Mike has taught at California State University, Chico. He began in the Center for Information and Communication Studies, where he served as director. Most recently, Mike has been a member of the faculty in the department of Communication Arts and Sciences.
