Science in Personal and Social Perspectives

Chapter Overview

Science greatly influences the way we live from both a personal and a social perspective. For example, our personal lives are affected by advances in medical knowledge and by advances in consumer products, such as computers. Our social lives are affected by the impact that science and technology together have on our communities, from advances in natural-resource control to advances in pollution control.

In this chapter you will learn about science in personal and social perspectives by studying the following topics:

  • personal and community health
  • natural resources
  • population growth
  • environmental quality
  • the greenhouse effect and global warming
