  1. How does the speaker relate to and experience nature in “Lines”? How is this similar to or different than you were taught to relate to nature? Do you have a sense that nature meant something different to 18th century Britons than it does to us today? Why or why not?

  2. A common critique of modern literature is an attempt to “romanticize” nature. What do you think it means to be criticized for romanticizing nature? What do you think critics believe is risky about expressing our experiences of nature with such emotion? Can you think of times when you’ve misapplied human attributes to something in the natural world?
