Adah's mother: So do you like getting all this attention, Adah?

Adah: Yes, I do.

Narrator: It's prom season and just like high school seniors across the country, Adah is getting ready for the big night. In fact, she's been invited to three proms, including her own at La Costa Canyon High School. This is Brian, her date, and Adah sure wishes Mom would put the video camera away. So, Brian, have you ever met anyone from Turkey before Adah?

Brian: I can safely say I knew absolutely nothing about Turkey or people from Turkey.

Narrator: And now? We're moving in for the close-up!

Brian: People from Turkey are much like people from America.

Narrator: And Adah is feeling more at home all the time.

Adah's mother: Do you think you've become pretty Americanized?

Adah: Yes, since I don't want to go back.

Narrator: Actually, Adah has never really gotten homesick this year. She talks to her family in Turkey often, and she'll have a lot of stories to tell about how high school kids celebrate the end of the year.

Adah's mother: Have fun, Adah!

Adah: Thank you, Mom.

Adah's mother: You're taking care of our daughter, OK?

Brian: Absolutely!

Narrator: A special night in what's been a memorable year. Adah is one of more than a dozen students who've come to San Diego through the American Field Service program. And now it's time to think about the one subject everyone wants to avoid.

Teacher: You are going back soon, and you need to be thinking about preparing to go home so that when the day comes, you're ready for it.

Narrator: They're friends who may never see each other again because of simple geography.

Classmate 1: I'm Lee from China.

Classmate 2: I'm Laura from Finland, Adah's best friend.

Adah: I'm Adah from Turkey.

Classmate 3: I'm Christian from Iceland.

Narrator: It's the year that brought them together from all over the globe, as they adjust to life with these crazy Americans. With just five weeks to go, there's the realization that they've become a little bit American themselves whether they like it or not.
