Chapter Overview

A Dimension of Human Sexuality...Disability and Illness. Sexual health, according to the World Health Organization, is the integration of the physical, emotional, mental, and social aspects of sexual being. However, society has tended to desexualize people for physical and emotional excuses. Those with disabilities and illnesses have the same potential for enjoying the same pleasures of life as those without disabilities and/or illnesses. It is important to view individuals who are slow learners, elderly, blind, in wheelchairs, or cerebral palsied as people who want to belong and be accepted, give and receive, and love and be loved.
