1) Find several (six to seven) police agencies that serve roughly the same populations. For example, find two agencies that serve similar populations in each region of the United States. Compare officer salaries and benefits among the departments. What information is provided in this area? What information is available concerning promotional opportunities? Can you determine any patterns across agencies in terms of salaries and benefits? For example, do police departments in some regions provide officers with more salaries and benefits than agencies in other regions?

2) Learn more about the effects of on-the-job police stress by logging on to www.ncjrs.org . Go to the "Law Enforcement" link and find the article, "On-the-Job-Stress in Policing-- Reducing It, Preventing It." According to the article, what are the sources of stress among officers? What are the effects of stress? What can be done to prevent stress among officers?
