In July 1998, thousands or people were killed by a tsunami along the coast of New Guinea. A tsunami, popularly known as a "tidal wave," is a giant sea wave usually caused by an earthquake. Tsunamis are described on pages 399-401 in Physical Geology (8th Ed.). Read the news reports linked to the web site. What did the survivors of the tsunami report that the tsunami sounded like? How many waves came to shore causing damage?
