    CHAPTER STRUCTURE

    Each chapter begins with a page that previews topics you will study.

  • OBJECTIVES The objectives describe the basic knowledge you can acquire by studying the chapter.
  • KEY TERMS This alphabetic list is of important vocabulary terms found in the chapter. The terms are printed in bold-faced type when they first appear in the chapter text and are defined in the margin of the page on which the term is introduced.
  • ETHICS GUIDE The Ethics Guide at the end of each chapter is based on the latest edition of the American Medical Association’s Code of Medical Ethics: Current Opinions with Annotations. Read each ethical principle and decide how it is relevant to the health care profession you will practice. Answer the discussion questions to help clarify your personal ethical viewpoint concerning each principle.
  • CHAPTER REVIEW Each chapter review includes questions that review facts presented and points made in the text. Use these questions to test your comprehension of the material then review appropriate sections of the text as necessary to reinforce your learning.
