The Milgram study is one of the most controversial social psychological experiments ever conducted. Because of the psychological community's reaction to this study, the American Psychological Association created ethical guidelines that researchers must now follow when conducting their experiments (see Activity 2.6, "Ethical Dilemmas"). Why might this study be considered "unethical"? Do you think the knowledge gained from this study outweighs the ethical concerns?
