Unit 7: Research Paper Writing

Overview

When you write a research paper, you should break down the project into the smaller steps of planning and researching, drafting, revising, and editing and presenting. The first step in the planning and research stage is to choose a topic. Look for a topic that interests you that is neither too broad nor too narrow. After choosing your topic, start making bibliography cards and taking notes from sources. Document your sources properly to avoid plagiarism. Then make a formal outline and start creating your thesis statement. In the drafting stage, present your information and develop your ideas. Make citations within the body of your research paper when you use quotations, summaries, or paraphrases. When you revise your research paper, you should check content and organization, style, usage, and documentation. Your final step is presentation.
