• In this WebQuest activity your students will be researching famous people from Francophone countries who are considered an important part of their country’s heritage.
  
  
• You may wish to brainstorm with students keywords in French that will help direct them to French-language Web sites to complete this WebQuest.



• Remind students to apply their understanding of cognates and context to determine the meanings of the unfamiliar words they will encounter as they work through this activity. Encourage them to avoid trying to understand every word in the articles they read. Instead, suggest that they “read for the gist” and make educated guesses about the general meaning of what they read.
  
  

Expansion

• Have students create posters or PowerPoint® presentations about the person(s) they researched. Have them present their poster or PowerPoint® to the class. Encourage other students to ask questions of the presenter. After the presentations, have the class vote on the person that they thought was most interesting or influential.
