Chapter 10: Building a Web Site

Future Trends Personalized Web Sites

Web sites are becoming very friendly to their repeat customers. Many sites are storing names, e-mail address and individual preferences for their customers so their Web sites will be personalized when you visit them. Amazon, Land’s End and Dell all provide personalized customized service for their customers.

Imagine you are the owner of an e-business. Define your business and then write two paragraphs about the personalization you might provide to your customers. Think about your business five years from now. Predict the features that might be available then to provide customized service to your customers.

Then, using the Internet, starting at BusinessWeek.com, find a business article about the technology needed to create the customized Web sites. What is it called? How does it work? How much does it cost? Share your findings with the class.
