Objective
  • To familiarize students with services on board the plane
  • To talk about what would take place under certain circumstances


Notes

  • In this activity, students win a two-week trip to the city of their choice in South America. Distribute the ticket vouchers to the students (index cards with Primera Clase, Clase Ejecutiva, or Clase Turista written on them).
  • In ¡A navegar! Primera parte, students have to choose their destination city in South America. Have students look at several destination choices on the Lan Chile site before deciding where they want to go.
  • Remind students to apply their knowledge of airplane flights and their understanding of cognates in order to determine the meanings of any unfamiliar words they may encounter as they work through this activity. Encourage them to avoid trying to read every word in the site. Instead, suggest that they scan each page for the specific information they need in order to answer the questions on their worksheet. Remind them to use contextual clues, to guess, and to trust their "instincts."
  • Students will occasionally need to go beyond the first screen of a Web page in order to find all the information they need.

Expansion

  • Have students invent a new service that this airline could offer its clients. Ask them to create a design for a Web page (similar to the one they viewed in this activity) in which they explain their new service in simple Spanish.
  • Have students role-play an encounter between a flight attendant and a passenger.
