Objectives
  • Increase students’ knowledge of the customs and traditions they have studied in the textbook

  • Familiarize students with other manners, customs, and traditions in the Francophone world

  • Expand students’ knowledge of French culture

  • Compare manners, customs, and traditions in the Francophone world with those of the United States

  • Have students read/review the Lectures culturelles section on pages 422—425 of their textbook before beginning this activity.

  • You may wish to have students pair up with someone who chose different themes to share infomration from the Feuille de travail in order to maximize the opportunity to learn new vocabulary.


Expansion

  • Have students discuss why they made different choices in which customs to explore.


  • Have students present an oral summary in French of their research. You may wish to encourage them to use the grammatical structures of this chapter as they express their observations and opinions.


  • Have students create posters or PowerPoint® presentations (either individually or in groups) demonstrating the customs and traditions they researched. Have them present their poster or PowerPoint® to the class. Encourage other students to ask questions of the presenter(s).


  • Have students work in groups, with each student describing reactions to what he or she read online. Encourage students to use expressions such as Je suis étonné que, Il est intéressant que, etc., to talk about their ideas. Then have several students report back to the class about the impressions of their classmates.


  • Have students role-play situations that incorporate the customs they learned about.
