Internet Exercises

  1. Visit three different Websites devoted to cultures, and print out at least one page from each site.
  2. Possible Strategy: Go to Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com). Click on "Society and Culture," then on "Cultures and Groups," and then on "Cultures." You will see a large number of subdirectories for various cultures. Click on any of these to go to Web pages. For example, choosing "Polish" can lead to additional subdirectories about Polish Americans.

  3. What is the median age of residents of the United States? Compare it with what you estimate to be the median age of your public speaking class. (If you don't know what median means, consult Chapter 8.)
  4. Possible Strategy: Visit the U.S. Bureau of the Census (www.census.gov) and click on "Subjects A–Z." Choose "Age Data," and then "Estimates," and explore various options until you find the median age.
