1

Think of a time when you were in an emotional state and someone really listened to you. How did that person let you know that you were heard? Can you use your memories of that experience to help you listen to children?
2

How do you feel when children are expressing feelings of separation? Can you remember a time when you had those feelings? When was it? How did you feel? Does reflecting on your own experience help you respond to a child who is having those same feelings?
3

How do you feel about being told to give a nonjudgmental response that merely reflects a child's feelings rather than responding with a lecture or logic in the face of a conflict?
4

Think of a time when someone did something just to get a reaction out of you. How did you respond? If it had been a child, might you have responded differently? What do you think the effects of your response would have been?
5

Can you think of a time when someone discounted or ignored your feelings and/or perceptions or defined your reality for you? How did that feel? How did that affect you? Can you use your own experience to help you work with children?
