Answering these questions enables you to relate material from the text to your own personal experiences.
  1. Why, in your view, were the Olympic Games revived in modern times? What other Hellenic traditions and practices still prevail?
  2. The plots of Greek tragedy were not original, but rather versions of ancient myths. Create your own tragic retelling of a bible story, fairy tale or other timeless narrative, paying attention to the unities of place and time, and other Aristotelian concepts such as catharsis.
  3. Draft a short public speech or eulogy (on the order of Pericles’ address) that describes your town, university, or social organization.
  4. Plato held that philosopher-kings should rule a society. Are there such individuals who would fit this description today? Make a case for or against Plato’s viewpoint.
  5. Apply Aristotle’s advice concerning the Golden Mean to your own experiences. In what way might this principle work to influence human behavior?
