We have often heard the saying that it is a problem of "mind over matter." Now that you have read Chapter 18, what evidence, if any, is there to prove that the "mind" (one's predispositions, one's expressions, etc.) can actually change "matter" (i.e., one's body, one's physical health)? Why or why not? If one's mind does have some power over one's health, what are the apparent limits to its power? Why do you think this is? Remember to provide specific evidence from life experiences and helpful textbook examples to support your position.

Toward the end of the chapter, the authors discuss Pennebaker's two theoretical explanations for why disclosure works to promote healthy adjustment. Do you agree with these explanations? Why or why not? Do you believe there are--or should be--limits to disclosure? If so, what would they be? If not, can you imagine a world in which disclosure always trumped discretion? Can you recommend any guidelines for when disclosure is healthy and when it is not?
