Chapter Eleven provides an overview of two (2) classical virtues: compassion and gratitude. The student will have an in depth experience of how compassion and gratitude have been examined by traditional and contemporary philosophers. The student will understand why other virtues such as loyalty, honesty, courage, etc. are not as respected by tradition. The questions such as whether we owe an obligation to our parents according to Jane English will be explored. This chapter provides a unique view of the classical ethics and applies it to contemporary experiences.

The readings and narratives will further enable the student to understand compassion and gratitude at different times in history.
