Exercise 16.5 (20.0K)

The following story was transmitted on The Associated Press newspaper wire. Rewrite it for broadcast.
AUSTIN, Minn. (AP)—A federal mediation session has been scheduled for Monday in the seven-week-old strike by union meatpackers at the Geo. A. Hormel & Co. plant.
It's the first time the two sides have met since some 1,500 members of Local P-9 of the United Food and Commercial Workers union struck the Austin plant on Aug. 17 in a dispute over wages
and benefits.
Federal mediator Hank Bell set the meeting, but the location was not announced.
Bell has said he had been trying to arrange a meeting before a request last week from Gov. Rudy Perpich to the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Minneapolis to resume the talks.
