Student Web Activity Answers
Note that all answers provided below are examples. Student answers may vary.
  1. The day was too beautiful to do nothing at all, so Janine and Hilary set out to hear a concert in the park. That morning, they prepared an elaborate picnic dinner-barbecued chicken, vegetable stew, potato salad, and thick watermelon wedges. Then they packed everything up in a wicker basket and left for the park.
  2. Though they carried a blanket and chairs with their basket, and they had to transfer from one train to another and from the last train to a shuttle bus, the hassle was worth it. They knew that cellist Jamin Gonzalez, their favorite musician, would be playing with the symphony orchestra that night. Besides, they arrived with time to spare. They found a shaded spot in which to spread out their blanket, took out some dishes and napkins, and waited for the concert.
  3. They were halfway through their meal, gleefully chattering away, when the cellist came out on stage to the applause of the audience. The two friends quieted immediately and listened intently to the soothing cello. They enjoyed the performance so much that they could hardly believe the sun was already setting over some distant poplars when the last encore had been played. They would remember this day, the two agreed, and in high spirits returned home.
