Chapter 2 Video Case

Breaking Through: Sylvia Rhone of Elektra Records
This informative video examines women on the job - in this case - women in the music and recording industry. More specifically, it takes at look at Sylvia Rhone, chairman and CEO of Elektra Records. Rhone is currently a leading minority female in an industry previously noted as being led only by white males.

Sylvia rose from a $12,000 per year position in the secretarial ranks, all the way to her current multimillion-dollar position at Elektra Records. She admittedly claims, "I can't sing or even carry a tune if my life depended on it." She states her love of music and her determination to succeed are what assisted her in being able to rise to the top in this tough, male-dominated industry.

It is her "ear to the future" that helps keep Rhone on the cutting edge of this business. This combined with outstanding instincts, effective decision making skills, and a great "gut" guidance system are helping Sylvia achieve her goals to keep Elektra Records at the top of the industry.
