DU PONT ACCEPTING ENTRIES
FOR "ANTRON" DESIGN AWARDS'
Entries are now being accepted for the annual Du Pont "Antron" Student Design Award competition. Students at U.S. accredited schools of interior design and architecture nationwide are eligible.
The competition offers students a chance to gain important recognition from the professional design community, as well as a grand prize of $1,000 and category awards of $500 each, all with matching funds to winners' schools.
The winners will be honored among some of America's leading professional designers at special ceremonies in New York City before several dozen top editors of design publications and in Chicago at NEOCON 22, one of the most important trade shows in the commercial interior design industry. Winners' travel expenses are paid by Du Pont.
Participants are required to design a commercial environment, providing the judges with a rendering and a written rationale. The design must incorporate carpet of 100 percent Du Pont "Antron,"
"Antron" XL or "Antron Precedent" nylon as an important design element; carpet and fabric samples must also be submitted.
Entries will be judged in the categories of offices, hospitality facilities, health-care facilities, public spaces and store planning spaces. Entry deadline is February 15.
Last year's grand prize winner, Kathleen Johnstone of Syracuse University was "wined and dined" in New York and at NEOCON in Chicago, where she shared the stage with the rock duo Daryl Hall & John Oates during a Du Pont-sponsored show honoring the student and professional design award winners.
Johnstone's picture and stories featuring her winning entry also appeared in Interior Design and various floorcovering trade magazines.
"Winning the grand-prize in the Du Point 'Antron' Design Award helped me meet leaders in the design community," Johnstone said, "which is something that every recent college graduate needs when looking for their first job opportunity.
"As a result of winning this award, I showed my portfolio to Stanford Hughes, one of the judges and was hired by his firm, the San Francisco office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The 'Antron' award really changed my life."
For entry forms and more information on this year's competition, please see your design professor, ASID student chapter president, or contact Holly Chung at the Du Pont "Antron" Student Design Award Center, (212) 614-4305.
