Use the following information, which is from the Buffalo (N.Y.) News, to write a staccato lead.
     Americans don't know a lot about Afghanistan, particularly its food and cooking.
     The country is slightly smaller than Texas. It is in south central Asia and is semi-arid and landlocked. It has few forests and is unable to produce many crops.
     Here are some more things about Afghanistan. It has barren sands. The summers are hot. The winters are cold and harsh.
     But the nation's food, drink and culinary traditions are lush. And many of the traditions are adopted from Afghanistan's neighbors.
     The country's food uses mainly fresh ingredients and powerful spices.
     People there don't use a lot of spices—and no curries at all—but they rely on mint, saffron, cardamom and tumeric.
     One favorite dish is aashak, which is steamed scallion-filled dumplings topped with spicy meat sauce and yogurt. Then it is sprinkled with mint.
     The staple is nuts, including pistachios and almonds. Lamb, chicken and beef are used in dishes.
