Roy Disney v. Michael Eisner
This video discusses the not so cordial conflict that occurred between Roy Disney and Michael Eisner. When Roy Disney resigned from his position with the Disney organization, he called for its CEO Michael Eisner to resign also. Eisner, in turn, refused to do so and contended that his contract with the organization did not expire until 2006.

Disney's contention that Eisner would lead the company into decreasing performance in the future just as he had over the last seven years did not produce the result he had hoped for - that being of course, Eisner's resignation. Right or wrong, the conflict continued. Each individual had his own perspectives and his own points of contention.

[Editorial Note: In September 2005 (after the filming of this video), Michael Eisner stepped down as CEO and also resigned his seat on the company's board of directors.]

Discussion Questions:
  1. In your opinion, would you surmise the conflict between Disney and Eisner to be functional or dysfunctional? Defend your response.

  2. While Eisner's and Disney's conflict and attitude toward each other had been called cordial, it was unlikely that a desired outcome would be forthcoming. Knowing the eventual outcome of this conflict, identify alternative outcomes of conflict situations such as this.

  3. Describe personality conflict. If it proved to be that Eisner and Disney were experiencing this type of conflict, what methods for alleviating this could be taken by the organization?
