Summary Leads

Exercise 4.10

Complete this exercise offline and then either e-mail or hand the exercise in to your instructor.

Write a summary lead based on the following information, which is from a story in The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune.
Debbie McMillan of south Tampa, Fla., has been sick.
A year ago, the blood vessels feeding her brain ruptured, causing a clot in the back of her head that affected her brain stem.
She had surgery, but she was totally paralyzed and appeared to be in a coma.
Now, 12 months after being on the verge of death, McMillan is running in Saturday's
Gasparilla 5K race.
A week after surgery, her toe flickered. She continued to improve.
She's gotten so much better that on Saturday she will run in her first race.
A year ago she looked out her window as the race passed by. To help cheer her up, her doctor told her she would run in the next one. Soon after, she told him she wanted to begin training.
