Summary Leads

Exercise 4.14

Write a summary lead based on the following information, which is from a story in the Chicago Tribune.
There are 2,500 students attending Farragut Career Academy High School in Chicago.
The school is at 2345 S. Christiana Ave.
On Friday some of the students began fighting after a scuffle in the lunchroom of the school. The scuffle escalated to gang fights throughout the building.
     There were several gang-related fistfights.
Sgt. Frank Hughes of the Marquette Police District said that 20 students were arrested and charged with disorderly
conduct. Most of the youths were released on $100 bond, Hughes said.
Three students suffered cuts and bruises and were treated at a local hospital, Principal Steve Newton Jr. said.
Newton said the students at the school were released early on Friday after the gang-related fistfights broke out. They were sent home because staff members at the school decided the commotion was too dangerous to continue classes.
